The International Casino & Resort Working Dog Association (ICRWDA) is proud to offer a K9 Handler Scholarship to attend our 120-hour Private Security & Law Enforcement Explosives Detection K9 Handler School, held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This scholarship is intended to support dedicated working dog handlers who want access to professional explosives detection training designed for real operational environments.

Real Training From Real Bomb Dog Professionals

This 120-hour hybrid K9 Handler School prepares handlers working with previously trained detection dogs through hands-on instruction delivered by instructors with real-world bomb detection experience.

No influencer hype. Just proven field experience.

Our curriculum reflects real explosives detection operations in private security and law enforcement environments, taught by instructors who have spent decades actually doing the job - not just posting about it.

And much more.

Scholarship Includes

The scholarship recipient will receive:

Full tuition for the 120-hour K9 Handler School
Four nights lodging during the hands-on training portion
$250 travel stipend to assist with transportation costs

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to Law Enforcement and Private Security K9 handlers who currently work with a single-purpose, pre-trained explosives detection dog.

Who Should Apply

This program is especially beneficial for explosives detection handlers who have not previously attended a handler school specifically focused on explosives detection operations.

Many handlers enter the field after attending general K9 handler courses where explosives detection teams represent only a small portion of the class. While those programs provide valuable foundational skills, they are often designed primarily around patrol or narcotics detection operations.

The ICRWDA Explosives Detection K9 Handler School is built specifically for bomb detection teams, with curriculum and training scenarios tailored to the unique operational realities explosives detection handlers face in the field.

Handlers who want to deepen their understanding of explosives detection tactics, odor theory, operational deployment, and search strategy are strongly encouraged to apply.

Why This Training Matters

Explosives detection is one of the most serious responsibilities in the working dog profession. Whether operating in casinos, hotels, stadiums, transportation hubs, special events, or other public venues, explosives detection teams are trusted with protecting large numbers of people and critical infrastructure.

That level of responsibility requires more than basic handler training. It requires a deep understanding of explosives odor, search strategy, deployment tactics, and the operational realities bomb detection teams face every day.

The goal of the ICRWDA K9 Handler Scholarship is to support handlers who are committed to strengthening their skills and continuing to develop professionally in the explosives detection field.

If you currently work an explosives detection K9 and want to sharpen your operational knowledge and train alongside instructors who have spent decades working real-world bomb detection deployments, we encourage you to apply.
